Installation Notes

All AutoVIP files should be installed in the same folder using the installation package downloaded from www.alembx.com.

File server or multi-user installations: 

AutoVIP is quite easy to setup in a network environment.  However, we recommend that file server installations be performed with the assistance of a technical support professional who is familiar with your particular network environment and with any standard operating procedures that may be required in your organization.

In a file server environment where AutoVIP is installed to a common shared folder, it is recommended to select just one machine to run the installation package on.  

For any additional machines, simply add a shortcut that launches autovip.exe in the shared folder.

For convenience when installing launch shortcuts on workstations, you can run the AddShortcuts.exe program in the installation directory from any workstation to install a shortcut and menu option on that workstation.

For a file server or multiple-user installation, all users should have read/write access to the VIP.TPS file.  

Only the system administrator should be granted authority to execute the uninstall program named "uninst_autovip.exe".  Only execute this program if you are uninstalling the application.

Caching the VIP.TPS file may enhance application performance.  If you do cache the VIP.TPS file, use write-through caching so that all changes are immediately written to disk. If delayed-write caching is used and the server goes down for any reason, any unwritten updates would be lost and the AutoVIP database could possibly become corrupted. 

Tip: If you encounter the 'Open File Security Warning' when launching AutoVIP from your network, try this procedure in Internet Explorer:

• Internet Explorer >> Tools >> Internet Options >> Security tab >> Local Intranet icon and select Sites. 
• Click on the Advanced button.
• Unselect Require server verification (https) for all sites in this zone. 
• Then add your server or domain, including the \\, to the Add this website to the zone box and click on Add. 
• You should then see something like file//<server in the websites list box.

Installing Program Updates:  If the target installation folder is a shared folder or on a network drive, the userid should also have administrator access to the installation folder whenever installing updates.
